What am I looking at?
A few short years ago, this was an area of the delightful island of Giudecca, totally abandoned to itself, with no clear plan of what, if anything, would ever be done with it. Precarious old buildings scattered amidst an entangled mass of thick undergrowth, the playground of many a rat and disobedient child.
Once the seat of a number of small factory plants, some long gone to more economically advantageous climes, whilst others had slipped into total oblivion remaining only a distant memory in the minds of but a few, in the late 90s it was at long last realised that the area might offer a relief to the housing crisis in the city.
And thus the ambitious idea of "Judeca Nova" was born, fruit of an international architecture competition to find the most appropriate plans for this rather special spot tucked away in a tiny, but highly desirable corner of the city.
Surrounded by amazing views across the southern lagoon and one of the most attractive and characteristic canals in the city, then only a few short minutes away from the bustiling centre of this dream-like city, the new residential area is blessed with a calm and tranquillity one only normally finds on isolated exotic islands! Just think........no cars!
